This Privacy Policy explains how Tutortia collects, uses, stores, discloses, transfers, and protects personal data when you use our platform. It applies to visitors, account holders, tutors, parents, adult learners, and parents or legal guardians using Tutortia for learners under 18.
Tutortia is owned and operated by Musintel Limited. We use personal data to provide account, profile, matching, contact-disclosure, verification, subscription, support, safety, analytics, and compliance functions. This Policy also explains how we use service providers such as Google, Twilio, Stripe, and other technology providers.
This introduction is intended to help you understand the structure of this Privacy Policy. The full Policy below explains our privacy practices in more detail.
1. Who we are
Tutortia is a platform owned and operated by Musintel Limited, a Hong Kong incorporated company.

2. Scope of this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Tutortia collects, uses, stores, discloses, transfers, and protects personal data when you use the Platform.
It applies to visitors, account holders, tutors, parents, adult learners, and parents/legal guardians acting for learners under 18.
This Policy is intended to support compliance with the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and related privacy principles.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Account and login information
We may collect:
- name or display name;
- email address;
- login method;
- account role;
- language preference;
- account status;
- authentication and security records.
3.2 Google Sign-In information
If you use Google Sign-In, we may receive basic Google account information needed for login, such as:
- name;
- email address;
- profile picture, if provided by Google.
We use this information to create or log you into your Tutortia account, secure your account, and operate the Platform.
We do not use Google Sign-In data to access your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, contacts, or other Google services unless we clearly request additional permissions in the future and you grant them.
3.3 Phone and WhatsApp verification information
We may collect your phone or WhatsApp number and verification status.
We may use Twilio Verify WhatsApp or similar providers to send verification messages and verify that the phone or WhatsApp number belongs to you or is controlled by you.
3.4 Tutor profile information
If you are a tutor, we may collect profile information such as:
- profile photo;
- display name;
- age range;
- gender;
- education background;
- tutor-claimed credentials;
- subjects/categories;
- teaching formats;
- districts/locations;
- hourly rate;
- languages of instruction;
- experience;
- self-introduction;
- availability;
- profile/public activity metrics.
Public tutor profiles may show information such as display name, profile photo, general age range, general education/credentials as stated by the tutor, subjects, districts, lesson formats, hourly rate, language, experience, and self-introduction.
WhatsApp/contact details are not publicly visible.
3.5 Tutoring request information
If you are a parent or adult learner, we may collect tutoring request information such as:
- learner type;
- school level or adult age band;
- subject/category;
- preferred lesson format;
- district/sub-district;
- budget;
- language preference;
- learning goals;
- request notes.
Public or guest-visible case/request fields may include subject, level/age band, district/sub-district, lesson format, budget, and learning needs.
WhatsApp/contact details are not publicly visible.
3.6 Information about learners under 18
For learners under 18, the account/request must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian.
Tutortia aims to avoid collecting unnecessary sensitive child information. Unless we specifically ask otherwise, parents/legal guardians should not submit:
- child name;
- exact school name;
- exact address;
- HKID;
- child phone number;
- other sensitive child identifiers.
For under-18 learner requests, Tutortia collects the parent/legal guardian's contact details, not the child's contact details.
3.7 Matching and communication information
We may collect information about applications, acceptances, mutual matches, contact-disclosure events, notifications, and support communications.
After mutual acceptance, we may disclose contact details to the matched parties as explained below.
3.8 Payment and subscription information
If you buy or start a tutor subscription, we may collect subscription information, payment status, invoice/receipt information, plan information, trial status, renewal status, cancellation status, and related billing records.
Payments are processed by Stripe or another payment processor we may appoint. Tutortia does not store full card numbers.
3.9 Support, safety, and reporting information
If you contact us or submit a report, we may collect your message, contact details, account information, screenshots, attachments, transaction details, and other information needed to respond, investigate, enforce platform rules, or comply with law.
3.10 Technical, analytics, and device information
We may collect technical and usage information such as:
- IP address;
- browser and device information;
- pages visited;
- clicks and usage events;
- approximate location inferred from IP address;
- referral source;
- cookies or similar identifiers;
- error logs;
- security logs.
We may use analytics and error-monitoring tools such as PostHog, Sentry, Vercel Analytics, and Google Analytics.
4. How we use personal data
We use personal data to:
- provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Platform;
- create and manage accounts;
- authenticate users, including through Google Sign-In;
- verify phone or WhatsApp numbers using Twilio Verify WhatsApp or similar services;
- publish tutor profiles and tutoring requests where applicable;
- review and moderate profiles, requests, and content;
- enable applications, acceptances, matches, and contact disclosure;
- process tutor subscriptions, free trials, renewals, cancellations, invoices, receipts, and refunds;
- send service messages, including verification messages, subscription reminders, trial-ending reminders, match notifications, policy updates, security alerts, and support replies;
- respond to enquiries, complaints, reports, and support requests;
- detect, prevent, investigate, and respond to fraud, spam, abuse, unsafe conduct, security incidents, and misuse of contact details;
- enforce our Terms of Service and platform rules;
- understand usage, improve user experience, debug errors, and monitor performance;
- comply with legal, tax, accounting, regulatory, and recordkeeping obligations;
- protect the rights, safety, and property of Tutortia, Musintel Limited, users, and others;
- send direct marketing only where we have provided any required notice and obtained any required consent or indication of no objection under applicable law.
5. Contact disclosure after mutual acceptance
Contact details are not publicly visible.
After mutual acceptance through the Platform, Tutortia may unlock and make available contact details to the matched parties so they can communicate directly about the matched tutoring purpose.
For adult learners, Tutortia may make available:
- the tutor's WhatsApp number to the adult learner;
- the adult learner's WhatsApp number to the tutor.
For learners under 18, Tutortia may make available:
- the tutor's WhatsApp number to the parent/legal guardian;
- the parent/legal guardian's WhatsApp number to the tutor.
Tutortia will not knowingly make available a child's WhatsApp number for under-18 learner requests.
Contact details made available through a match may only be used for the specific matched tutoring purpose and must not be used for spam, marketing, harassment, scraping, resale, unrelated contact, or any purpose not connected with the match.
6. Direct marketing
Tutortia may send direct marketing messages such as promotional emails, newsletters, offers, tutor acquisition campaigns, and platform updates.
We may use personal data for advertising audiences, retargeting, and lookalike audiences only where we have provided any required notice and obtained any required consent or indication of no objection under applicable law.
You can opt out of marketing by using an unsubscribe link or emailing hello@tutortia.com.
You cannot opt out of essential service messages while you maintain an account or active subscription. Essential service messages include account verification, WhatsApp verification, subscription reminders, payment receipts, trial-ending reminders, match notifications, policy updates, security alerts, and support replies.
7. Who we disclose personal data to
We may disclose personal data to:
- matched tutors, parents, or adult learners after mutual acceptance;
- hosting, database, storage, authentication, and infrastructure providers;
- login and identity providers;
- phone/WhatsApp verification providers;
- payment processors;
- email and notification providers;
- analytics and error-monitoring providers;
- customer support, security, fraud-prevention, and compliance service providers;
- professional advisers, insurers, auditors, banks, and legal advisers;
- regulators, courts, law enforcement, government authorities, or other parties where required or permitted by law;
- another organisation in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar business transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards where required.
We may change or add service providers from time to time for legitimate business, technical, security, payment, communication, analytics, and compliance purposes.
8. Cross-border transfers and storage
Your personal data may be transferred, stored, or processed outside Hong Kong. Our service providers may operate servers or support teams in other jurisdictions.
Where we transfer personal data outside Hong Kong, we will take steps that we consider reasonably appropriate to protect personal data, such as using contractual, technical, and organisational safeguards.
9. Retention
We keep personal data for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including operating the Platform, maintaining accounts, providing subscriptions, handling matches, responding to support requests, preventing fraud and abuse, resolving disputes, complying with legal/tax/accounting obligations, and maintaining business records.
We may retain account, profile, match, payment, and support records while the account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards.
We may retain some records longer where needed for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute, payment, security, compliance, backup, or legitimate business purposes.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.
However, no internet service, website, database, email system, messaging service, or payment system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and telling us promptly if you believe your account or personal data has been compromised.
11. Your access and correction rights
You may request access to or correction of your personal data by emailing hello@tutortia.com.
We may ask you to verify your identity before responding. We may refuse or limit a request where permitted by law, such as where disclosure would affect another person's privacy, reveal confidential information, or conflict with legal obligations.
12. Account deletion and data deletion requests
You may request account closure or deletion support by emailing hello@tutortia.com.
We may retain information where reasonably necessary for legal, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute, payment, security, compliance, backup, or legitimate business purposes.
Deleting your account may remove or hide your public profile or request, but it may not immediately remove all records from backups, logs, payment records, support records, or legal/compliance archives.
13. Children and minors
Tutortia is not intended for account holders under 18.
For learners under 18, the account and request must be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian. Tutortia aims to collect only limited learner information needed for matching and avoids collecting sensitive child identifiers where possible.
Parents/legal guardians should not submit unnecessary child personal data.
14. Cookies and similar technologies
Tutortia may use cookies and similar technologies for login, security, preferences, analytics, performance, error monitoring, and advertising/retargeting where applicable.
15. Third-party websites and services
The Platform may link to third-party websites or use third-party services. Those third parties have their own terms, privacy policies, and practices. We are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or security practices.
16. Data breaches
If we become aware of a data incident affecting personal data, we will assess the incident and take steps we consider appropriate, which may include investigation, containment, remedial measures, user notice, regulator notice, and service-provider coordination where appropriate or required.
17. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated Policy will be posted on the Platform with a new "Last updated" date.
If we make material changes, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
